F.A.Q

Question: If I sign up for a post-paid mobile account now, will I be able to change to a new company when their service starts?

Answer: Yes you can, but there may be a penalty –

before you sign on as a post-paid customer with an existing company please read your contract very carefully. Some companies may require you to keep their mobile service for a minimum period. Currently, this period may vary from one (1) to five (5) years and penalties are likely to apply if you try to end the service before the minimum period has run out.

Question: What does it mean when I am told that my mobile phone is ‘locked’
(This should not be confused with ‘keypad lock’)

Answer: This means that the mobile phone is set up to work only with the telephone company which supplied it.

Question: If I receive a mobile telephone from abroad can I use it in Trinidad and Tobago

Answer: Not all mobile phones can be used in Trinidad and Tobago. Mobile telephones use signals to send and receive calls via “frequency bands”. In Trinidad and Tobago the following frequency bands are proposed for mobile phones.

TSTT’s GSM and TDMA networks
800, 1800 and 1900

Digicel’s GSM network
800 and1900 Bands

LaqTel’s CDMA network
800 and 1900 Bands

Question: What can I do if I am unhappy with my mobile telephone service?

Answer: Firstly, complain to your telephone company. If after doing so you are unsatisfied with your service or the way your complaint has been addressed, you can complain to the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago
