Migration Plan: 1800 MHz Band to 1900 MHz Band Allocated to Cellular Mobile Services for the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT)

The Authority invites comments to the captioned consultative document. This document seeks to establish the process by which TSTT shall migrate its public domestic mobile telecommunications network from the 1800 MHz band to the 1900 MHz band allocated for cellular mobile services.

Pursuant to the Telecommunications Act 2001, as amended by the Telecommunications Amendment Act 2004, the attention of the public is drawn to Sections 22 and 37 of the Act which state:

Section 22(1) (a)

“Every concession for a public telecommunications network, a public telecommunications service or a broadcasting service shall require the concessionaire to pay fees annually to the Authority”

Section 37(1)(a)

“Every licence shall require the licensee to pay fees annually to the Authority”

Consistent with the above, all concessionaires and licensees are hereby notified that with immediate effect:

Concession and licence fees that were being paid to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Administration and Information, should now be paid directly to the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.

Licence fees for wireless equipment that were being paid to the Customs and Excise Division, Ministry of Finance, should now be paid directly to the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.
