DIGICEL AND TSTT ASKED TO RESUME NEGOTIATIONS
On 16 August 2006 the arbitration panel appointed by the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago to hear the interconnection dispute between Digicel Trinidad and Tobago Limited and Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) Limited delivered its written decision, providing detailed reasons for the decision.

The full text of the arbitration panel’s decision is available for viewing on the website of the Authority (www.tatt.org.tt).

In the interest of all stakeholders, the Authority has by letter dated Monday August 21st 2006, urged Digicel and TSTT, to resume negotiations in order to conclude an interconnection agreement in the shortest time possible.

The Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago hosted a seminar titled  “RFID Technology…Opportunities and Challenges” on Thursday March 23rd 2006.

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a generic term for technologies that use radio waves to automatically identify objects and people.

At the seminar officials of the Authority  introduced the concept of this ubiquitous technology to various stakeholder groups and conveyed information on its different applications as well as opportunities and challenges associated with its use.

The presentation by Ms Nalini Mahadeo, the Authority’s Wireless Engineer, focused on trends and challenges regarding RFID technology, while that of Mr. Karyl Gajadhar, Compliance Analyst, dealt with RFID applications.

Mr. Khalid Hassanali, the Authority’s Chairman, delivered the opening address.

DIGICEL, LAQTEL AND TSTT SIGN CONCESSIONS
Representatives of Digicel Trinidad and Tobago Limited, Laqtel Limited and Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago  (TSTT), today, (Friday December 30th) signed concessions and associated licences. The concessions will authorize these companies to provide public mobile telecommunications services and public international telecommunications network and services in Trinidad and Tobago for a period of ten years in accordance with Parts III and IV of the Telecommunications Act 2001.
